My Peeps

It was a pretty exciting day around here, We finally got the chicks...

Nathan absolutely loves them. "go see MY baby chicks?" I heard all day long.
I was pretty surprised with how gentle he was. I still need to catch one for him and put it in his hand or he attempts to pick up up by the head. But once they're in his hand he's so gentle and calm it's pretty great.

Although my favorite part of the day didn't just make me laugh out loud, I was howling it was so funny. On the way to get the chicks we had this conversation...
Mommy: "Do you know where were going?"
Nathan: "get chicks"
Mommy: "that's right baby chicks, do you know what sound a chick makes?"
Nathan "......"
Mommy : " Chicks say peep peep peep"
Nathan: " Mommy, what that sound?"
Mommy: "what sound? peep peep?"
Nathan: "yes, mommy, that a microwave"

Another cute addition

We've been on a search for awhile for the PERFECT dog for out here.

I was pretty sure I wanted another Pyrenees. The question was did we want to start from scratch with another puppy? or find an older dog that might teach Miss. Maggie a few things, like coyotes don't really want to be your friend? (to be honest I was terrified that the coyotes were getting closer to the house, and Maggie wasn't seeing them as a threat- if figured if one was bold enough to approach her she'd probably just roll on her back and think it wanted to play)

But finally after months of searching the ads I found the dog...

(hmmm...blogger is doing something funny with the pictures- it rotated on it's own and I can't figure out how to turn it back!)

Welcome Jasper
he's an 11 month old 3/4 Pyrenees 1/4 Samoyed cross

and those cuts on his nose? from a couple weeks ago when he tangled with a coyote. He's already fearless, not another wussy, city-fied dog around here.

He was also raided around 2 little girls ages 2 and 6, so Nathan's sometimes spastic behaviour is totally tolerated by this pooch.

Right now were working out the kinks. Like, he's never worn a collar or been on a leash. He also seems to think climbing people is an acceptable greeting. But he's coming along fast.

And of course Maggie is thrilled...but we knew she would be.

New Babies

Happy Mother's Day!!!
This week we added 2 new "babies" to our household.
On Wednesday we added an adorable 4 week old kitten, and named here Chevy. She is "Nathan's Kitty" and if you get caught picking her up... he comes over "no, my kitty".

...and today- actually on Mother's day, we got another Furbaby. He's a 3 month old Old Bull Mastiff/Bloodhound, named Mack. He is full of puppy energy, but seems pretty smart and also already in love with Nathan.

I've told Chris before I think that animals sense aura's and I think Nathan has a good animal Aura, because it never takes long for animals to become totally attached to him. And it's not like he's always extremely gentle or nice, but somehow these animals all fall in love with him anyways. He's already got the kitten trained! It follows him around like a puppy would. He runs across the deck or the yard and Chevy goes flying right after him. On the second day the cat was here, he taught her to climb up and down the stairs, and the 2 of them went up and down for over twenty minutes. I think it's just the coolest thing that he can get these animals to WANT to hang around him all the time.

I'm not really looking forward to all the work that Mack is going to require- his owners we're allowing him to jump up on people (which is a really bad thing when you consider that full grown this dog will probably be well over 100 pounds)-but I think we found a pup that will be worth the work, and we'll have to see what magic the miniature animal whisper can work too!

Nathan's new Doll?

We had the house inspection on Thursday and were back out on the property to meet the inspectors (everything went well)
The current family was home from school for a snow day, so Nathan spent the entire time following the youngest daughter around trying to make her play with him...she decided to show him "the coolest trick ever"
apparently she's had this cat since it was a kitten and has always put it in the doll stroller...

The cat adores being pushed around in the stroller, even when it stopped getting pushed in circles it would stay in the stroller hoping someone else would take it for another ride.

Nathan thought this was the coolest thing ever!! ~ Man my child is just animal crazy.

The acreage sega

So since this is kind of a long story I thought I'd intersperse it with a few pics...

This is my favorite part of the house...there is about a 3 foot balcony over the stairs that you can access from the master bedroom- I can totally see me decorating this space seasonally

So the story goes...On Wednesday morning we had called the realtor to ask more questions about the septic tank and water pumps and things. That evening we got a call back telling us that the realtor knew there was another offer coming in from another agency, and if we were serious about the place we would have to move quickly and put together an offer.

This is the bigger of the two kids bedrooms- it is bigger but with the pink walls I'm thinking that Nathan will want the other room

I was really upset by the Wednesday night call, wondering if this was a bad sales tactic. Chris (after about 8 phone calls back and forth, even though he was at work at the time) made a verbal offer and agreed to meet the realtor the next day to write it up.I wasn't happy about writing an offer under pressure, so I insisted we go back to the property first and take another look- that's why I have all the pictures.

This is the smaller of the two bedroom, but it's already painted blue and is the room with a closet so I think this will be Nathan's bedroom at first.

So we looked around the property and made sure we were still in love with it! And heard the rest of the story from the Realtor- saying his boss who is listing the property got a call that another agency wanted to present an offer late Wednesday night. But since it was late the owner didn't want to discuss the offer until after work the next day. Our realtor realized that if we actually were serious about the property our offer would have to be presented at the same time, giving us less than 24 hours!

This is the Master_ I'm so excited that there is actually enough room for an actual bedroom set- our bedroom in Lethbridge was squished for space when we had all our furniture in it!

So we decided that it was definitely the property for us~ and we wrote our offer! It was a had few hours waiting to hear back...

But in the end

they accepted our offer as it was written

so assuming that all the conditions can be met we will be the EXCITED owners soon!!!!

keep your fingers crossed

I'm so excited about the place we found.

I've spent half the day on the net searching out the town, and the surrounding towns. As well as all the stupid stuff like utilities and Internet and garbage disposal. As well as checking the pricing of everything else in the area to make sure we're not out to lunch on the actual value of the property (so far it seems like an awesome deal- which is either awesome news for us or makes you worry that somethings wrong with the place)

I've talked to both sets of parents and made a list of questions that we need to give the realtor. Since we've never dealt with septic tanks or well water...so we've been asking all sorts of questions to try and get an idea of what we need to know.

I can't believe how excited I am about this place. I keep trying to keep calm and not get to excited until we actually make an offer, and then of course it still has to be accepted before I can start planning out the furniture placement and all the really fun stuff~ ahhh the fact I'm already talking furniture placement has got to tell you how much I have my heart set on this place!!! LOL

The Acreage Search Begins

We met with a Realtor this afternoon and got to see 2 properties...so our acreage hunt had officially started!!!! YAYThe first on was at the high end of our range, and had so many out building that were a little scared the maintenance required will be too much for us. But at the same time, it's a property that has the potential to grow with us instead of being out grown! ~ We need to do some serious thinking about what the purpose of an acreage is for us, and whether we want to create some extra income by allowing storage on the land or renting out whole buildings or if this is just a family place????questions, questions and a little soul searching.

~this was however Nathan's favorite- mostly because it had a kitty, that wanted to play with him! The kitten (again it was young, like the kitty from a few days ago) allowed Nathan to follow her around, and he was petting it nicely. I ducked into check out the barn and when I came out Nathan had decided to "cuddle" the cat. He had picked up kitty and had the poor thing upside down by the hips. He wasn't hurting it, obviously, because the cat let him pick her up another 4 or 5 times and would just go limp in his arms no matter what angle he picked her up. It was pretty funny to watch because the kitten was obviously quite an armful for him. I wish I'd had my camera but it was in the van at the time! Darn

The second property is actually considered by the county to be a dog kennel, which we thought may or may not be an interesting source of income too, if we're willing to do the work.
But as soon as we walked through the house I knew it was the wrong place for us. There was nothing really wrong other than having a small kitchen...but you know when a layout of a house feels funny, and you have such a hard time imagining your stuff in there that you just know a place could never be home???

Crazy Chicken Lady

So my newest Brain Wave-
slight obsession
is to become a Crazy Chicken Lady

Seriously

By this spring our plan is to find an acreage (hopefully close to Chris' work)

and my next plan is to build a chicken coop and start trying to raise a "FLOCK"
I found a great website http://www.gatewaytovermont.com/thefarm/chickens.htm
which reminded me of all the things I guess I knew some where deep down
Like baby Chicks would need a heat lamp, and also provided info that I had no idea about like each chicken actually requires 4 square feet per bird, or dipping a chicks beak in water so it understands the concept of the drinking bowl.

Anyways this is my newest little project because I'm bound and determined to try raising chicken- although being a city girl my whole life I'm sure you could make a reality TV show out of this idea that would probably rival Simple Life!!!
But it's my newest plan, and I hope with a lot of research before hand that I may be able to start at least constructing a coop and giving it a go as soon as we find a place~
